Youth Participation in Physical Activity

Nearly half of 12-21 year olds do not engage in vigorous physical activity on a regular basis.

The percentage of high school students nationwide participating in daily physical education classes dropped from 42% in 1991 to 32% in 2001.

Only 52% of high school students nationwide were enrolled in a physical education class in 2001.

Physical Education in School

Children participate in 135 minutes of physical education each week, as directed by the Texas Education Agency.

Children participate in fun activities and games that promote the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills)

Children develop skills that they can use for a lifetime

Eye-hand Coordination activities

Tennis and other racquet sports

Basketball

Golf
