Grades
Students can earn a grade of A, B, C, or F in each class. In order to earn credit, a student must make at least a 70 (C).
A = 90-100
B = 80-89
C = 70-79
F = 69 and below
The BISD grading policy is available below. To check student grades, go to grades.bryanisd.org and select HAC (Home Access Center). You received a letter with your unique login and password at the start of the year. If you have misplaced this letter, contact the assistant principal's office.
SEMESTER AVERAGING
When a student fails the first semester or the second semester of a two-semester course , then semester averaging will be used. The two semesters will be added together and divided by two to obtain an averaged semester grade. Credit will be awarded for the entire year if the average of the two grades is 70 or above.
GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)
A student's GPA is reported on his/her transcript. BHS reports a weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale. Only core classes, language classes, and any AP/IB classes are included in the GPA calculation.
HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS EARNED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL
Some students may have earned high school credits in middle school (i.e. Algebra 1, Spanish 1, etc.). These courses count for high school credit (as long as a passing grade was earned). High School credit courses taken during the 2008-09 school year (including summer school 2009) and beyond are included in a student's GPA calculation.
WEIGHTED GRADES
Bryan High School weights honors, PreAP, AP, IB, and dual credit courses in calculating GPA and class rank.
Regular classes are on a 4.0 scale (a 93 is equivalent to a 3.3 GPA).
Honors and PreAP classes are on a 5.0 scale (a 93 is equivalent to a 4.3 GPA).
AP, IB, and dual credit classes are on a 6.0 scale (a 93 is equivalent to a 5.3 GPA).
In all cases, the grade that is earned in the class is the grade that will appear on the student's transcript. However, in calculating GPA and class rank, the weighted value will be used. For example, a student who makes an 80 in an Honors or PreAP course will have that grade calculated as a 90. A student who makes an 80 in an AP course will have that grade calculated as a 100.
As with any other course, in order for a student to receive credit in a weighted course, a grade of 70 or better must be earned.

Finals / Exemptions
Final Exam Exemptions in Grades 9-12
Students in EOC test courses in the spring semester will be exempt from the final exam in EOC courses regardless of the students’ grade level or eligibility criteria.
Exemptions from semester exams shall be allowed in accordance with the following eligibility criteria:
A student’s grade classification at the beginning of the year shall determine the number of exemptions for which the student is eligible.
EOC tested courses are not eligible for exemptions at the end of the fall semester, unless that student is taking the EOC during the fall administration.
Student in grades 9–12 with three absences (excused/unexcused) during the semester must have a grade average of 90–100 in the course in order to be eligible for exemption. A student in grades 9–12 with two absences (excused/unexcused) during the semester must have a grade average of 80–89 in the course to be eligible for exemption.
A student’s excused absence in grade 11 or 12 to visit an accredited institution of higher education shall not count against his or her eligibility for exemptions.
A student who has violated the Student Code of Conduct during the semester shall not be eligible to be exempt from any semester exams.
If all eligibility criteria have been satisfied, a student shall be eligible for a maximum number of semester exemptions according to the following:
