On Monday, April 3, 2023 the Bryan ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution expressing their concerns about STAAR Redesign and the Accountability System for public schools.
While we continue to celebrate our 86 “B” rating for this school year, we’ve been told by TEA that next year’s scores cannot be compared side-by-side to current scores.
In fact, TEA has stated that, “It is possible that a campus with an A in 2022 may improve in 2023 and yet receive a B.” We don’t think that is the proper way to grade our students and schools.
The School Board’s resolution asks for 2023 to be a hold-harmless year for accountability with so many changes happening to the assessment and the system.
We appreciate the School Board’s leadership in supporting our students, teachers and staff and advocating on behalf of Texas public schools.
