April 2023 Message
Dear Bryan ISD Families,
Happy Spring! I hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend with your family and friends. We are looking forward to many exciting things in and out of the classroom as all of the schools have planned for a strong finish for your children.
Safety and Security Updates
We, like many of you, send our condolences to the families in Nashville dealing with such tremendous loss right now. I want to assure you that we at Bryan ISD are constantly evaluating our safety and security measures to ensure our campuses are safe.
Recently, the district underwent a required Safety and Security Audit. We are pleased with the results and were commended for all of the safety upgrades over the past few years. We continue to encourage you to talk to your children and remind them if they see something or hear something, to say something. Additionally, please reinforce our anonymous reporting tool called the BSafe App. School safety and security will remain our top priority.
School Board on STAAR Testing Resolution
On Monday, April 3, our School Board unanimously approved a resolution expressing their concerns about STAAR Redesign and the Accountability System for public schools. While we continue to celebrate our 86 “B” rating for this school year, we’ve been told by TEA that next year’s scores cannot be compared side-by-side to current scores. In fact, TEA has stated that “It is possible that a campus with an A in 2022 may improve in 2023 and yet receive a B.” We do not think that is the proper way to grade our students and schools. The School Board’s resolution asks for 2023 to be a hold harmless year for accountability with so many changes happening to the assessment and the system. We appreciate the School Board’s leadership in supporting our students, teachers and staff and advocating on behalf of Texas public schools. To read the full resolution, please click here.
Student Registration for All Grade Levels
Kindergarten Roundup was a success! We were so excited to meet our future students and families. Please register as soon as possible so schools and teachers can begin connecting with you and ensure a smooth start to the school year for your student(s). Students who will be 5 by September 1st can enroll for Kindergarten and students who will be 4 by September 1st can enroll for Pre K (Free and Tuition-Based). Click here to access the online enrollment information and portal.
Celebrations
We have a lot to celebrate in Bryan ISD with academic accomplishments, fine arts recognitions, CTE competitions, athletics accomplishments, and many other extracurricular accolades. Our students at all levels have made us very proud.
The Bryan ISD Showcase in Downtown Bryan was a HUGE success. The light shined brightly on our students and staff. It was wonderful for everyone to see our amazing district. If you were able to attend, thank you for making it the largest crowd ever on a First Friday!
Last week we celebrated and cheered on all of our Fourth Graders in the District. I’m happy to share that our 4th Grade Track Meet was back at Merrill Green Stadium, following a three-year pause during the pandemic. The adults had just as much fun cheering for our students.
Bryan ISD Build
In February we broke ground on the Habitat for Humanity Home for the Quintero-Mendez family. Several staff members and students worked in the Habitat warehouse to build all of the walls. We have had some weather delays so the work at the construction site is stalled for now. We still feel confident that we will be able to complete the house this spring so stay tuned for more details and updates.
Bryan ISD continues to provide so many choices and opportunities for our students. We are thankful for parent and family partnerships and involvement. When we work together, anything is possible. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Ginger Carrabine
Bryan ISD Superintendent
