Ginger Carrabine believes in the power of education and positioning students for post-secondary pathways including college, workforce, and public service. Ms. Carrabine draws from her experiences spanning from the classroom to a multitude of administrative positions. 

Alongside transparency, safety, and security, Ms. Carrabine has made family and community engagement a top priority. She has taken the lead on many projects that have encompassed the involvement of students, families, and the community at large. Under her leadership, the district built its first-ever home for a family in need by partnering with BCS Habitat for Humanity. Ms. Carrabine has also been essential in the inception and continuation of the Bryan ISD Showcase, a community event that highlights all of Bryan ISD students, schools, and programs. She believes in the importance of making sure families and the community are involved, informed, and welcomed.

Ms. Carrabine obtained her Bachelor's degree from Lamar University and her Master’s degree from the University of Houston. Ms. Carrabine is married to Mike Carrabine, a teacher and the head basketball coach at Rudder High School in Bryan ISD. They are the proud parents of three adult children who are products of public education and are now successful professionals.

Dr. Brian Merrell

Dr. Brian Merrell has been with Bryan ISD since 2018 when he joined the District as Executive Director of School Leadership, overseeing secondary campuses, fine arts, career and technical education, and multiple student, family, and community engagement initiatives.

As Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Merrell oversees the district operations division while ensuring the effective execution of operational systems across the district. He will also supervise the leaders of the Career and Technical Education department, and the Fine Arts department, while also managing special projects as determined. In addition, Dr. Merrell will lead long-range strategic planning, master facilities planning, and a multitude of district initiatives. This position emphasizes community, family, and student engagement while interacting with internal and external stakeholders.

Prior to coming to Bryan ISD, Merrell served as principal in Waller ISD for 13 years and has now been serving in education for over 26 years. Dr. Merrell received all three of his degrees (Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Education) from Texas A&M University. He currently holds teacher, principal, and superintendent certifications.

Dr. Barbara Ybarra

As Associate Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Dr. Barbara Ybarra oversees multiple departments, including special programs, advanced academics, bilingual education, counseling services, curriculum and instruction, testing and assessments, and special education.

Dr. Ybarra first joined Bryan ISD in 1996 as a geography teacher and has served as an assistant principal and dean of instruction at Davila Middle School. She served in multiple roles in the district's technology department, including as director, before moving into central administration as an executive director and then Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and Accountability. She has served in her current role as associate superintendent since October 2015.

Dr. Ybarra earned a Bachelor's degree from Culver-Stockton College in Missouri and went on to receive her Master's degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lamar University in December 2016. She also serves as an adjunct professor for the educational leadership doctoral program at Lamar University.

Kevin Beesaw

Kevin Beesaw joined Bryan ISD in 2012 as director of financial services before moving into his current role as Assistant Superintendent of Business Services in 2018. As assistant superintendent, he manages all aspects of Bryan ISD's budget and the areas of finance, payroll, purchasing, print shop, federal programs, benefits, and risk management.

As director of financial services, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the finance department, including purchasing, accounts payable and payroll, and monitored the district's financial investments, accounting and legal compliance.

Before coming to Bryan ISD, he served as an accountant, as controller for TP Services in Bryan and was controller at Waltman & Grisham for 25 years.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and business from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and holds a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in Texas and Minnesota.

Athletics

Dereck Rush

Dereck Rush, Executive Director of Athletics

Dereck Rush has been serving as Bryan ISD Director of Athletics since 2019, and his position was reclassified as Executive Director of Athletics in 2024. Rush came to the district from Conroe's Oak Ridge High School where he was the Head Football Coach and Assistant Athletic Director. Prior to Oak Ridge, Rush spent 9 years at John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas. He served four years as the Defensive Coordinator and five years as the Head Football Coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator. As the head coach, the team won five district championships and made it to the quarterfinals twice and semi-finals once.

Rush was an Honorable mention All-SEC-Linebacker at Mississippi State University and received his Bachelor's degree in Fitness Management and a minor in Business Administration. He also has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University and he is a (CAA) Certified Athletic Administrator.

Growing up as an athlete, Rush was a two-time State Champion in both football and basketball before playing collegiate football at Mississippi State. He shares a lifelong passion for athletics with Bryan ISD players, coaches and colleagues. This drive for success will continue to lead all Bryan ISD Athletic programs.

Operations and Auxiliary Services

Patrick Corbett

Patrick Corbett, Interim Executive Director of Operations

Patrick Corbett took on the role of Interim Executive Director of Operations in November 2024 as he continues to serve as Director of Fine Arts, a position he has held since May 2016. Before moving into district administration, he previously served as Assistant Principal at Jane Long Middle School from 2013-2016, before it was reclassified as an intermediate school.

Before coming to Bryan ISD, Corbett worked in San Antonio ISD, Comal ISD and was band director at Saint Mary's Hall in San Antonio.

Before moving into education, Corbett served in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of "The President's Own" Marine Band. After 20 years, he retired from the Marines as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. During his time with the Marine Band, Corbett frequently played at White House events and participated in five presidential inaugurations, earning the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

Corbett earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Sam Houston State University, completed postgraduate studies at The New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, earned a Master of Music from Rice University, and received a Master of Educational Administration from Trinity University. He has also performed as a freelance musician with the Baltimore National Symphony, the Houston Symphony, the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra and the Wolf Trap Orchestra.

Dr. Hugo Ibarra

Dr. Hugo Ibarra has transitioned from his role as Director of Employee and Community Relations to the newly reclassified position of Executive Director of Community Affairs. With over 12 years of experience in the district and 20 years in education, Dr. Ibarra has served in a variety of district leadership roles including Director of Employee and Community Relations, Community Outreach Officer, principal, assistant principal, and teacher.

With a background in business administration and marketing, Dr. Ibarra brings a multifaceted approach to the many layers that impact community engagement, school leadership, and student achievement.

Dr. Ibarra earned his Doctor of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, a Master's degree in Education and Curriculum Instruction from Texas A&M University, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Tyler, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico. He currently holds teacher, principal, and superintendent certifications.

Tommy Roberts

Tommy Roberts moves into district leadership as Executive Director of Human Resources after having led Bryan Collegiate High School as principal since 2017. As principal of Bryan ISD's early college high school, he was instrumental in maintaining the school’s U.S. News and World Report Best High School rankings for 11 consecutive years. Mr. Roberts started his career at Bryan ISD in 2005 and has served in a variety of roles, including teacher, instructional coach, associate principal and principal.

As the Executive Director of Human Resources, Roberts will provide strategic leadership and direction for all HR functions within the school district, which employs more than 3,000 people. The role emphasizes talent acquisition, management, development, compensation and retention of employees, while ensuring legally sound and effective systems. As executive director, Roberts is instrumental in creating a positive work environment that aligns with the district’s educational goals and standards through effective Human Resources practices.

Roberts received his Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and Master of Education degree from Texas A&M University. He completed his postgraduate studies and principal certification program at Sam Houston State University and is completing his Superintendency Certification Program through the University of Texas at Tyler.

Linda Montoya

Linda Montoya, Executive Director of School Leadership

Linda Montoya has spent her entire career in Bryan schools and assumed her role as executive director of school leadership in July 2022. As executive director of school leadership, Montoya helps oversee elementary campuses throughout the district.

Before moving into the role as executive director of school leadership, Montoya has served in campus and district administration, most recently as principal at Jones Elementary School for 11 years.

Montoya earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Texas A&M University in 1988. She began her career in education in 1990 in Bryan, completing her student teaching at Crockett Elementary School. She moved into campus administration in 1999 as principal of Henderson Elementary School and district administration in 2004 as director of special education.

Jennifer Warren

Dr. Jennifer Warren joined Bryan ISD as executive director of special programs in 2022, coming to the district from Midland ISD where she served in a similar role. Dr. Warren brings experience as a classroom teacher, a campus leader, a special education compliance coordinator, and a director of special programs. In her role, she oversees the special education, bilingual, dyslexia, and early childhood programs.

She began her career in education in 2005 as a teacher in Palestine ISD and has served as a teacher in other districts before becoming an assistant principal in Corsicana ISD in 2015. She then was named the special education compliance coordinator for Corsicana ISD and for the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf before moving into a director of special programs position. She served in that role until 2020 when she took on a similar role in Midland ISD. where she served until 2020 when she moved to take on also served in as director of special programs in Corsicana ISD, gaining experience as a special education compliance coordinator in areas of deaf education, and in campus leadership as an assistant principal.

Dr. Warren earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Texas A&M University, a Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and a Doctor of Education degree from Lamar University. She holds superintendent and principal certifications and certifications in special education, for deaf/hard of hearing, early childhood-fourth grade, gifted and talented, and English as a second language.

Julea Johnson, Executive Director of Technology Services

Julea Johnson serves as the Executive Director of Technology Services, overseeing the district's technology department from student and employee computers to internet access and cybersecurity.

Johnson became involved with the district's technology department while a classroom teacher at Navarro Elementary School through a grant. Since then, she has held several roles within Technology Services, including as an instructional specialist, systems analyst and director of technical support. In addition to her roles in the district, she has served on the Brazos Valley Community Network (BVCnet), as a board member for the Technology Computer Education Association, and was part of the Operation Connectivity Task Force.

A product of Bryan ISD, Johnson graduated from Bryan High School before continuing on to Sam Houston State University to complete a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Johnson returned to her home district after college and has worked in Bryan ISD for 31 years.
