At the Oct. 23 Bryan ISD Board of Trustees meeting, the board recognized Elementary Teachers of the Month, Auxiliary Employee of the Month, Naveen Cunha as the Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year, outgoing board member Dr. Deidra Davis, and students from Jones Elementary and Kemp-Carver Elementary.
Members of the Jones Elementary News Crew led everyone in saying the United States Pledge, while the Junior Student Ambassadors from Kemp-Carver Elementary led the room in saying the Texas Pledge.
Jones Principal Dr. Alma Velez recognized kindergarten teacher Rachel Miller, saying the second-year teacher has an "exemplary learning environment" and holds her students to high expectations that they understand. She takes the time to get to know her students, and they love her for it, Dr. Velez said.
Kemp-Carver Principal Alison Boggan recognized second grade bilingual teacher Magda Ortiz-Reyes, saying she is very active on campus from helping start the robotics club and the Hispanic Heritage Month Festival, and volunteering with Science Club and to revive the school's PTO.
Bryan ISD Transportation Director Lori Sears recognized bus driver Regina Anderson as the Auxiliary Employee of the Month, spotlighting her positive attitude and work ethic. She said Regina is a role model to new and current transportation employees.
SFA Middle School Principal Kimberly Giesenschlag helped recognize Naveen Cunha, who was named the top secondary teacher in the state at the TASA Conference last week. She said his impact goes beyond just his students and will last after his students have left his classroom. Mr. Cunha said although he is holding the received the award, it represents everyone in Bryan ISD who has supported him.
Bryan ISD Superintendent Ginger Carrabine and the Board of Trustees recognized Board Vice President Dr. Deidra Davis, whose term will end next month. Her fellow Team of 8 members presented Dr. Davis with an engraved platter thanking her for her three years of service on the school board.
