Bryan ISD has elected new executive officers. At Monday’s noon workshop, the school board decided on their top leadership positions.

Dr. Julie Harlin was selected to serve as the new School Board President.

“I am excited to continue the legacy of leadership in continuing to support the great work of Bryan ISD and our Superintendent Ginger Carrabine,” Harlin said.

She is starting her seventh year on the board. She has previously served as Board Vice President for more than three years.

“Board goals direct the work of the district. Our goals stand firm, and I have faith in how we’ve been working on those,” Harlin added.

Dr. Deidra Davis will serve as the new Vice President.

“I truly appreciate the school board members’ confidence in me assuming the role as VP, and I’ll do everything I can to continue to serve the district and the board president,” said Davis.

She’s served on the board since November 2020.

“Children first. Always. And I just continue with that vision and do everything we can to make Bryan ISD the best that it can be,” said Davis.

Felicia Benford will continue to serve as Secretary.

“I’m excited to serve again as the board secretary. I want to be able to be in the executive team with the president and vice president to be able to run the meetings in case they are absent, to be able to represent the board in that position by taking notes from various meetings and passing along the information to them,” she said. “And just really to be a team player for the board to support the superintendent and the staff from the district,” Benford said.

Benford has served on the school board for more than 16 years.

We thank Mark McCall for his five years serving as Board President. He will continue to serve as a school board member, along with Mr. David Stasny and Mrs. Ruthie Waller.

“I’ve been honored having the position to serve and with the events we’ve been through. There have been many things over the last few years. I’m happy to be in the leadership position to help, from COVID to superintendent transitions to successful bond elections. I’m excited about where we’re going and excited about the new leadership,” McCall said.

Also, a new member joins the group. Leo Gonzalez, II was recently elected by voters to serve for Single Member District 3. He’s a lifelong Bryan resident and works as a local attorney and real estate broker.
